Recruiting Timeline

College Baseball Recruiting Timeline: A Year-by-Year Guide for Student-Athletes and Families

One of the most common questions families ask is:

"When should my son start the college baseball recruiting process?"

The answer is simple: earlier than most people think—but not necessarily by contacting coaches.

Successful recruiting begins with preparation, development, and planning. At B.A.S.E. College Advising, we encourage families to focus on four key areas throughout the recruiting process:

  • Academic Fit

  • Athletic Fit

  • Financial Fit

  • Personal Fit

The goal isn't simply to play college baseball—it's to find a college where a student-athlete can thrive both on and off the field.

Important Recruiting & Academic Dates

NCAA Eligibility Center

Student-athletes interested in NCAA Division I or Division II athletics should register with the NCAA Eligibility Center and monitor eligibility requirements throughout high school.

FAFSA

The FAFSA opens each year and should be completed as early as possible to maximize financial aid opportunities.

College Applications

Application deadlines vary by institution, but most fall between November and February.

Recruiting Materials

Video, metrics, transcripts, and academic information should be updated regularly throughout the process.

Final Thoughts

Every recruiting journey is different. Some players commit early, while others find opportunities later in high school or even through the transfer portal. Regardless of timeline, the most successful outcomes occur when families focus on finding the right academic, athletic, financial, and personal fit.

At B.A.S.E. College Advising, we help student-athletes and families navigate the recruiting process with clarity, confidence, and informed decision-making.
